When we first got there it was looking like it could be a very wet weekend -- not good for tent camping! We'd also had a little packing snafu which resulted in us not bringing our rain fly. Disaster! Our tent without the rain fly has skylights, which are basically an open netting that would let any and all rain fall right on top of us. Luckily, Joe had brought the rain fly from our other tent, so we made it fit.
Obstacle number two was that we didn't have a pop-up shelter for over the picnic table. We'd talked about it beforehand, and everyone felt sure we could devise something using tarps (or the rain fly we'd just used for our tent). When we got there, that was looking like it was going to be a challenge because of where the picnic table was situated. After watching us struggle for a few minutes, the nice couple in the trailer next to us asked if we'd like to borrow their pop-up for the weekend. Umm...yes, please!
Well once that shelter went up, the rain stopped for the rest of the weekend! Hooray! Now for highlights...
I wish this were a picture of our trunk. When we car camp, this rig is full to the gills!
The kids got their fill of hot dogs this weekend! But we did have some pretty spectacular cooking besides just hot dogs. We split up the meals, and everyone outdid themselves.
We got to see some cool nature. Besides this butterfly there were also wild bunnies running all around the campground. The kids loved watching them and trying to get close.
I couldn't believe this butterfly let Desmond get so close!
Molly had fun walking Aaron and Jessie's dogs around the campsite.
Even Auntie Teresa, Uncle Luis and Damien came out to visit for the day! Teresa is due in about a week, so they decided to forego the overnight stay.

Desmond could have played by the water for hours. He loves finding stuff at the water's edge and building structures. I forgot to get a picture of the town he built, but it had a boat dock, a walking path down to the water, a mini-campfire and a rooftop -- all miniaturized. It was awesome!
There was even a small -- very small -- element of danger on our trip.

And finally, we did some resting.
Desmond got a little too wet while building his town, and he soaked his long underwear, thermal socks and jeans. This is Joe drying his socks over the fire.
