It surprises me what the kids remember from year to year now. Last year there was some fighting over who would open the days of the Advent calendar, so we came up with an even-odd system. Yesterday Desmond announced that he was taking evens this year.
We did get a bit of a jump on the Advent calendar this year, to tell the truth. On Tuesday afternoon, Joe forwarded me an article about a bike ride through the Christmas lights at the Portland International Raceway. We've driven this route before, which has always been a lot of fun, but this year we decided to bike it. It's closed to cars and open solely to bikes only one day a year, so we went for it. The logistics of loading up the bikes, driving almost all the way to Vancouver, getting everyone fed and trying to maintain a decent bedtime were a little shaky, but overall it was totally worth it.
As you can see, this was a really well attended event! It was awesome to see the lights from our bikes, rather than from out our car windows. But the other cool thing was that we were biking on an actual race track! Desmond and Molly loved riding over the rumble strips at the curves.
Tomorrow's activity is for the kids to write letters to Santa. Since Molly is somewhat new to this, I had her practice today at lunch. Here's a video of her current wish list.
Happy first day of December! More to come.

What was her list? She kept eating and I only got guitar out of that!
