We try to get up to the mountain once a year at least. By the time you get all the gear for the kids, which you have to do every single year because of how fast they grow, we should probably be heading up there every weekend to make it worth the investment! But I'm satisfied if we can get up there at least once. :o)
We always go to White River, because it's the only place I know of on the mountain where you can sled to your heart's content for just the cost of a parks pass. That and the view is amazing!
As you can see if you compare this year's picture with last year's, there were two differences. See if you can spot them.
Difference 1: We didn't go with Teresa and Luis this year! (We missed you, Tuis!)
Difference 2: Look at the amount of snow! The second photo was taken in December 2016, and the first one was taken yesterday, January 14, 2018. So as you can see, this has been a very low snow year.
We were even a little worried on the way up that there wouldn't be enough snow for sledding. Ski Bowl had dry patches on its slopes, but it sounded like there was enough snow at Timberline, and you could see that most people were headed up that way.
At any rate, there was enough snow for sledding! Here are a few pics of us having fun.
We've always known there was a little river here (hence the name White River), but until this year, we'd never actually seen it. There was always so much snow built up that you couldn't even see the actual water. We also had no idea it was so rocky up here. Most years the rocks are covered in snow.
From this spot you can see the chair lift at Timberline, but it's not really visible in this photo.
It was 40+ degrees while we were up there, so we spent the entire time shedding layers. Joe was down to a sweatshirt by this point.
There was a really cool cloud layer just sitting off in the distance.
As we were leaving, the cloud layer drifted into the trees and made this awesome effect.
That's it for this adventure! We've heard it's supposed to snow more this week, so we're going to try to go up again once there's more snow.
I have never seen such beautiful crepuscular rays in real life. They must have been breathtaking!
